The horse seems to be on the mend.
He is more interested in whats going on around him, interacting more in turnout, more willing to work on the longe line... just more himself. Gosh, I hadn't realised how much change there had been in his personality until it had started coming back full force! 14 days on the meds and there is a noticeable improvement in his demeanor.
I did my own mini neuro exam and he had much better reflexes on his right back area, he "sunk" in reflex
to me running my finger nail hard along this space, where as previously, there was no reaction. My finger nail is not nearly as hard as the closed ballpoint pen that Dr. Marold had used either.  So I believe that whatever was wrong there is healing.  He wants his head rubbed alot lately, especially between his eyes by his forelock.

Under saddle, slowly building our lateral work back up.  At a walk or standstill.  Leg yields, turns on hind and fore.  There are sticky spots, but he tries. There is no rush, he'll let me know when he's ready for more. Lots of longe lining, very little riding happening right  now.   Hopefully he'll continue to recover.  He's much happier.

  2. I'm glad he is improving. It is so scary and heartbreaking when something is wrong with them.

  3. Isn't it something that a decline is subtle - until they begin to recover. So glad he is doing better!

About Me

My Photo
A horseowner and mom who juggles time between husband, kids and horses. I try and see things from the horse's perspective. I believe there is info to be learned from everyone, but it's up to me to decide if it is useful to me or not. I grew up riding hunter/jumper but have always loved trail riding. As an adult I explored cow working and dressage and continue to pleasure ride. I worked in the purchasing offices of a big box retailer in my former career and also taught at a Montessori school. Now I'm a full time mom and all that comes with that. Domestic enigineer and COO of the home! Oh, and horse caretaker...
